Pen-Pal Critiques Rules
Pen-Pal Critiques is a free manuscript critique service available to
Calliope subscribers only, for works of fiction (which includes
novels-in-progress), and nonfiction. Volunteer critics offer feedback, suggestions
for improvement, possible market sources, and in some cases, line-editing,
if requested.
A summary of the rules for submitting manuscripts to the volunteers
follows:
· Mail your piece directly to the
volunteer critic of your choice.
· Manuscripts should be neatly typed,
double-spaced, with name, address, and
phone number on the first page. Do not send more than three
chapters of a book
at one time.
· A cover letter introducing yourself
and what you are trying to accomplish is required,
as is a SASE and/or sufficient postage for return of critique
and/or manuscript. Reply
without SASE is solely at
the discretion of the volunteer critic.
· Volunteer critics will try to
respond within four weeks, but please be patient if it takes
a while longer.
· If your story, article, or book is
accepted for publication following your critique, we
want to hear about it! We also want suggestions on how to improve
the program.
If you would like to be a Pen-Pal Critic, please
provide Sandy your mailing address and describe the type of manuscript
(nonfiction, or fiction—state mainstream or genre) you're willing to
critique. For critic contact information, and for all other questions about
Pen-Pals Critiques, please contact Sandy Raschke:
